Overview

The VP of Construction is responsible for supporting the Senior Vice President of Construction in leading PAM Health’s construction efforts, including the planning and oversight of the company portfolio of capital projects. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, providing senior-level support and hands-on leadership on construction projects; meeting with key stakeholders, hospital personnel, administrators, outside consultants, vendors, and contractors. Additional responsibilities include oversight and report of budget, schedule, and quality control of capital projects for assigned projects and initiatives. This position requires working knowledge of construction trade practices and safety requirements sufficient to manage all phases of project planning, construction and renovation.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and direct construction projects from conception to completion, to include the hospital design, construction, and renovation activities across the PAM Health system, as assigned by the SVP of Construction.
  • Assist the SVP of Construction with the RFP selection of design teams and construction teams, establishing project scope, budget and schedule for all capital projects.
  • Oversee all onsite and offsite construction for assigned projects to monitor compliance with building and safety regulations.
  • Maintains acute awareness of market and industry trends. Implements innovative solutions for practice or workflow changes to improve system operations.
  • Assist with the department budget process. Reviews operating expenses and manages within budget limitations, assuring conformance to budgetary requirements.
  • Monitors and ensures construction compliance with federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations and standards as well as accreditation requirements.
  • Management of consultants (architects, engineers, etc.), including identifying and correcting issues to ensure project meets completion schedule and expectations of end user efficiently, on time, & on budget.
  • Establishes and maintains relationship and communication channels with developers, general contractors, architects, and engineers.
  • Regularly monitor and report on status of construction and renovation projects to the SVP of Construction.
  • Plan ahead to prevent problems; communicate and resolve emerging issues.
  • Ensure quality construction standards and the use of proper construction techniques.
  • Serve as project manager or lead construction projects as needed to support workload, complexity, or timing of capital initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and technical leadership to construction projects managers as needed.

Customer Service

  • Superior communication, written, oral, and presentation skills. Must use mobile device for remote communication.
  • Knowledge of principles & processes to provide customer service; includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services & evaluation of customer satisfaction. Interpersonal skills dealing with clinicians, administrative, front-line associates & outside vendors. Establish respectful & productive relationship with stakeholders to ensure customer satisfaction.

Health and Safety

  • Knowledge of construction safety standards, techniques, and means to provide safety information to all members of the project team. Understanding of PPE that is required to be used/available on any hospital project and the ability to train others on PPE use when required.
  • Participates in OSHA required training.
  • Follows universal precautions as appropriate for position; complies with Employee Health requirements for continued employment.

Qualifications

Education and Training: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management preferred

 

Experience: 10+ years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience in Hospital construction required. General hospital maintenance experience preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of Codes and Ordinances Relevant and Planning, Design, Construction and Maintenance.

• SME level with The Joint Commission, NFPA, & OSHA regulations.

• Thorough knowledge of the use & maintenance of Plant Operations equipment.

• Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, policies & procedures, operating instructions, & blue prints.

• Strategic vision with the ability to execute

• Impeccable judgment and ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic setting

• Executive-level presentation skills and ability to handle high-level client interactions

• Strong team-building skills and ability to motivate others; team-player mindset and willingness to collaborate

• Extensive knowledge of regulatory and accreditation agency requirements that impact department; stays abreast of industry changes

• Professional handling of exposure to confidential/sensitive information
