Overview

The Hospital Clinical Educator is responsible for direction and oversight of all training, education and competencies for hospital clinical staff.  Clinical Staff includes licensed nurses, nursing assistants, unit clerks, monitor technicians, licensed therapists, rehabilitation technicians, respiratory therapists, radiology technicians and laboratory staff.  The Hospital Clinical Educator will work collaboratively with the leadership team to ensure training compliance with Joint Commission standards as well as any applicable state or federal requirements. This is an exempt position.

Responsibilities

Program Development and Oversight

  • Assists designated clinical department leaders with development and validation of clinical competencies.
  • Reviews, revises and creates clinical education policies for all clinical departments and/or positions.
  • Formalizes and standardizes clinical education programs based on hospital classification (LTACH, IRF, behavioral health, etc.).
  • Develops and oversees core education to address patient population specific care.
  • Plans, prepares and maintains materials for facility use in educational programs for accuracy and relevance to target audience.
  • Adjusts content and teaching strategies appropriate to the learner needs.
  • Develops competence based programs for clinical staff with a focus upon improvement of skills and retention of knowledge.
  • Develops evidence-based educational materials.
  • Works collaboratively with hospital leaders to support staff development with educational activities (includes remediation, certification, mentoring, Joint Commission requirements, product roll-outs, etc.).
  • Prepares short and long term planning programs to address identified needs.
  • Identifies and recruits internal and external resources for education activities.
  • Responds to changes in clinical practices and develops programs to support those changes.
  • Ensures educational programs are congruent with organizational missions, values and goals.
  • Develop and implement standardized clinical onboarding programs for all clinical staff (RN, LVN, CNA, etc.)
  • Develops and analyzes skills assessments (LTACH, IRF, behavioral health, etc.).

Consultative Services

  • Serves as an educational consultant to task forces, committees, and projects related to policy, procedure and program development.
  • Responds to identified needs of the hospital to promote quality patient care and safety.

Qualifications

Education and Training: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Board of Nurse Examiners of the state of residence, with the ability to become licensed in all states in which PAM Health operate; Master’s degree required. BLS required.

Experience:  Progressive experience in clinical oversight/leadership required.  Minimum of three years’ experience in multi-facility healthcare administration required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Verbal ability to effectively express ideas and views for communication with leadership and clinical staff members across multiple disciplines
  • Proficient written and verbal communications skills
  • Read and write English language including medical terminology and abbreviations
  • Clerical ability to write reports, memorandums, etc. in all applications
  • Cognitive ability to operationalize the educational process
  • Organizational ability to direct and motivate professional and non-professional staff
  • Ability to maintain required educational and/or clinical competencies for role
  • Computer skills necessary to creating reports and training materials, including efficient utilization of Word, Excel and Power Point
