Overview

Provides phlebotomy and basic laboratory testing for the patient population, as needed. Performs other related
duties as assigned or requested. This is a non-exempt position.

Responsibilities

I. Position Responsibilities
 Collects and/or prepares human samples for analysis in a timely, efficient manner.
 Stocks laboratory supplies in the laboratory and on the nursing units.
 Transports specimens to laboratory testing facility.
 Uses computer to log in patients samples, perform inquires and print summaries.
 Performs basic preventative maintenance, such as temperature checks.
 Exhibits knowledge of basic development of patients as noted above.
 Provides age specific data on patients as noted above.
 Communicates with the family or significant other of the patients, as noted above, when necessary.

 Maintains the highest level of customer service via courtesy, compassion and positive communication.
 Promotes the mission and vision of PAM Health within the work environment and the community.
 Respects dignity and confidentiality by adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
III. Health and Safety
 Works in a manner that promotes safety; wears clothing appropriate to the performance of the job.
 Participates in OSHA required training.
 Follows universal precautions as appropriate for position; complies with Employee Health requirements
for continued employment.
 Reports unsafe practices to management.
 Knows own role in case of an emergency

Qualifications

Education and Training: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of phlebotomy or clinical laboratory assistant
training program or comparable on-the-job training is preferred. Valid state driver’s license. PAM Health follows the
DMV laws of each state and that person is responsible and require to abide by the local law. Current BLS certificate.
Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience as a phlebotomist is preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Adept at venipuncture, phlebotomy and finger sticks
Excellent verbal and written communication and documentation skills

Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR)
Effective interpersonal skills and compassion
Analyzing information, critical thinking, and problem solving
Knowledge of infection control procedures
